SMT-3 | Florida Referendum Would Protect Abortion

SMT-3 | Supporters of an abortion referendum in Florida say they are “confident” they have the backing needed to put the issue on the ballot next year, teeing up a major test in the Sunshine State – and providing yet another point of leverage for Democrats seeking to galvanize voter support up and down the ticket in key states in 2024.

Abortion rights supporters in Florida have since May been working to put the issue on the ballot in next year’s election, when voters would weigh in on whether to enshrine access to an abortion up to fetal viability in the state constitution.

The move mimics what’s been seen in a number of states throughout the country in the absence of Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed a right to an abortion at the federal level.
